I am interested in this new company - Meraki. The Company intents to bring the low-cost Internet access to peole aroun the word. You may recall a MIT "Roofnet" project a few years ago. Meraki is an extension to the MIT Roofnet projetc. They currently sells a low cost 802 11g router which uses chip set from Atheros Communications, Inc. This router can be used for building low cost indoor wifi mesh network. I have interest in integrating this wesh network with video camera for home security.

HDTV selection

I am in the HDTV market for a while. But there are so many different technologies to select. Which one is really right for me? I would like to share some of my finding.

plasma tv

Wide screen 50-inch plasma TV from maker such as Toshiba and HP can be purchased for less than $2,000. On acerage, HDTV prices have declined 50% over the past two years.Plasmas are known for having good black levels. However, images can sometimes leave impression if the screen displays the same picture for too long. It is known as "Plasama Burn-In".

LCD TV

LCD screens are also flat-screen TV. It is generally brighter than plasma, making them better for viewing in brighter room. LCD is also comsume less power than plasmas.

DLP TV

DLPs use tiny mirrors to reflect light and produce images, are typically the cheapest of the three types. They have a bulb that may need to be replaced over time. The viewing angle tends to be more limited than LCD and plasma screen.

1080P

Another tip: Consider capabilities you may need in the future, such as 1080p resolution. It is higher quality than the 1080i. But TV does not yet broadcast in the 1080p format yet. Sony PlayStation 3 and XBOX HD-DVD option are capable of displaying the "Progressive (1080p)" higher resolution format.

TV buyers will also want a HDMI connection, preferably more than one, for connecting to other electronics.
